Many natives of Henan Province may not know that Henan’s “close contact” with the World Expo began as early as 1915. In that “contact”, Yuzhou Jun Porcelain, Xinyang Maojian Tea, Shang Spun Silk, Kaifeng Taffeta Faconne and other quality products in Henan have left a deep impression on the world.

Henan also actively participates in Expo 2010 Shanghai - building the Henan Pavilion, and Shaolin martial arts performances are also expected to be featured at the World Expo. A series of activities held last week during the Henan Promotion Week in Expo 2010 Shanghai allowed Henan people to enjoy the charm of the World Expo in advance.

Henan substantially participated in all activities

Henan Pavilion in Expo 2010 Shanghai, with “Heart of the Nation, Origin of Urban Civilization” as the theme, displays Henan respectively from four aspects of “the center of the country, the origin of the cities, the root of civilization, and the rise of the Central Plains”. Currently, three excellent design schemes have been selected and will be deepened and improved by the relevant experts organized by Henan Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Based on the physical Pavilion, the design scheme of “Online World Expo” experience pavilion of Henan Province will be solicited.

Expo 2010 Shanghai (Expo 2010) is the 41st World Expo. It was held in Shanghai, China from May 1 to October 31, 2010. Expo 2010 is also the first comprehensive world exhibition held in China, with the theme of “Better City, Better Life”. This is the largest and longest-lasting international event held in China since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. With over 73 million visitors from 246 national and international organizations participating the event in 184 days, it breaks a record of history. A grand gathering of human civilization was staged on both sides of the Huangpu River in Shanghai, and a successful, wonderful and unforgettable World Expo was displayed to fulfill the promise that “if the World gives China an opportunity, China will add splendor to world expositions”.

Expo 2010 was also the first registered-type World Expo held in a developing country, attracting China’s attention and the world’s attention. With the theme of “Better City, Better Life”, Expo 2010 adhered to and promoted the World Expo concept of understanding, communication, togetherness and cooperation, and created and performed a wonderful and beautiful display of world civilization, which was written into the annals of history of the World Expo as a successful, wonderful and unforgettable event.

Successfully holding Expo 2010 has realized the century-old dream of the Chinese nation, demonstrated to the world the splendid civilization of China for five thousand years, displayed the remarkable achievements of the People’s Republic of China in the past 60 years, especially the reform and opening up for more than 30 years, showed concerted efforts of all ethnic groups in China to achieve the goal of building a moderately prosperous society, reflected the world’s economic, scientific and technological, cultural, social and ecological civilization development, explored the common development issues faced by human in today’s world, enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese people and people of all other countries and regions, promoted the international position and influence of China, increased self-esteem, self-confidence and cohesion of the people of all ethnic groups of China. The successful Expo 2010 proves that Chinese people have the confidence and ability to make their own contribution to the progress of human civilization.

Henan Province organized a delegation to participate in this event and set up Henan Pavilion.

We will make use of Expo 2010, which is held for a long time with a large number of participants and a great influence, to fully display the image of Henan. We will promote the history, culture and opening of Henan by building Henan Pavilion, holding Henan Promotion Week and using newspapers, radio and television, the Internet and other media, and will participate in a series of economic and trade activities to launch a number of major projects and seek to sign contracts, in order to inject more funds and vitality into Henan’s development.

Through this event, many people for the first time knew that Henan and the World Expo had such a deep “relationship”. As early as 1915, Henan had a “close contact” with the World Expo. Yuzhou Jun Porcelain, Xinyang Maojian Tea, Spun Silk, Kaifeng Taffeta Faconne and many other products “made in Henan” were award-winning products.

China Pavilion (Highlight: the pavilion in “Gugong (Forbidden City) Red” supported by four columns) looks like a red vessel lifted up by four columns. China Pavilion is built with the center section risen and wooden brackets fixed layer upon layer between the top of a column and a crossbeam to express Chinese elements and Chinese spirit - Oriental Crown.

Shows in Henan Pavilion include Kaifeng Pan Drum, Shaolin Kung Fu, Jiaozuo Taijiquan and other elements of the Central Plains culture, reflecting the simple and honest folk style of the Central Plains. The “Henan’s Traditional Culture Show (Guo Se Tian Xiang)” integrates songs, dances, operas, operatic songs, Taijiquan and Shaolin martial arts performances into one, and is a collection of fine arts and wonderful performances. The musical dance of “Culture · Style · South of the River (Feng · Qing · He Zhi Nan)” presents an upward tone, joyful and peaceful atmosphere, bright and lyrical rhythm, gorgeous and full of color, elegant and fresh style, grand and warm scene, showing you a gorgeous and colorful Central Plains, expressing the modern consciousness of the people in Central Plains who love their new life and work hard. Through this show, audiences experienced a fashionable, modern, beautiful and charming Central Plains.
