Introduction
Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG), was designated as a Centre of Excellence to offer competency-based education and training in pipelines management, operations and maintenance during the 7th Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) summit held in Kampala, Uganda from 6th – 8th October 2014. This was pursuant to the 3rd Heads of State Summit held in Kigali Rwanda on 28th October 2013 and attended by Heads of State from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan which resolved to establish Centers of Excellence in the region to offer capacity building for NCIP.
Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd (KPC), was therefore mandated to establish the Institute owing to its vast experience in pipelines management in the region. The establishment of the institute was also in line with the KPC’s Vision 2025’s aim of setting up an oil and gas investments hub in the region, therefore entrenching Kenya as the gateway to East & Central Africa.
The Institute is the only Oil and Gas School offering Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) programmes in the region and the third in Africa, after Sonatrach in Algeria and Transnet in South Africa.
MIOG being a technical institute falls under the Directorate of Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) in the Ministry of Education (MOE). It is accredited by TVET Authority (TVETA) and complies with the Kenyan TVET Act, Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council (CDACC), and the National Qualification Authority (NQA) rules and regulations.
The institute is headquartered in Naivasha, 3.5km off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway commenced training in September 2016.
