The school of economics was established in 2014 and it has grown to a population of about 350 students. The school houses Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Diploma in Economics.

The school graduated 37 pioneer students with BA Economics in November 2016. The course seeks to tap into opportunities offered in the Banking sector, Insurance, Consultancy, Telecommunication, NGO, Oil and gas and allied sector.

The experience gained by our students equips them with a mindset of being innovative and coming up with problem solving ideas as exhibited in the 2016 university exhibitions in Mombasa ASK show and University of Eldoret Agribusiness Trade fair. In the year 2015, two students from the graduating class were selected to attend an address by President Barack Obama at Kasarani as a way of preparing and exposing them for future leadership.

In November 2016, 10 students from SECO out of 42 students from other Universities in Kenya were interviewed for positions of Research Assistantship by EACC. SECO wish the well and success.

SECO is currently in the process of pursuing collaborations with International partners such as with an Egyptian Education Institution. Members of the School have carried out consultancies for International Organisations such as World Vision.

MISSION: To provide quality education, training, research, and consultancy in Science, Agriculture and Technology to meet the needs and aspirations of a dynamic society

Motto: Flame of knowledge and Innovation

The University of Eldoret (UoE) is a public institution located approximately nine kilometres North East of the sprawling town of Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, in the rich agricultural highlands of Kenya. It was founded in 1946 by British settlers as a large-scale farmers’ Training Centre. In 1984, it was converted to a Teachers’ Training College and renamed Moi Teachers’ Training College offering diploma-level training for science teachers. Arising from rapid expansion of university education in the country, the Teachers College was taken over by Moi University in 1990 as one its auxiliary campuses - Chepkoilel Campus – hosting premier faculties of Science, Forestry and Wildlife Management; Agriculture and Environmental studies.

The Campus quickly grew to become a haven of student life and academic activity in diverse disciplines carving out a unique identity for itself and subsequently upgraded to a constituent College of Moi University in 2010 (Legal Notice 125). Upon award of university Charter by the President on 11th February, 2013, the college was renamed University of Eldoret.

We pride ourselves as a home of Agriculture, Aqua-culture/Blue-Economy and Innovation; with over 34 academic departments domiciled in 9 schools (faculties) 11 Directorates with the New Directorate of Open and Distance e-Learning being central towards offering a blended learning environment and a student population of above 12,000, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels located at our main and town campuses. Additionally, the University has established a liaison and fundraising office in the capital city of Nairobi. We boast of high caliber of faculty from a diversity of backgrounds, well grounded in their fields, providing academic leadership, student supervision and mentorship.

The University has a 50-year development blue print, the Master Plan implemented in five-year strategic plans guided by overarching policy of harnessing local resources, working with partners and accountability in leadership.
